  • 1.  Website O&M Costs Build-out

    Posted 03-19-2023 10:58

Good morning Team.  My Team has been given the task to document our operating and maintenance (O&M) costs for each public facing website.  Given the variability of requirements and features associated with websites, we defined the following elements as guiding principles/categories to use when discussing and documenting the cost build-out with our business partners.

I was hoping to be able to use TBM towers/subtowers and cost pools/subcost pools to assist with this task but I couldn't find any place where website mgt, O&M, OPex, etc is called out.

Does anyone have any thoughts or guidance for me and my Team?  Thanks in advance for any assistance and have a super Sunday:-)!!!!!

so your O&M vs DME is specified in your investment budget that is available in the IT dashboard (shown below). it will not specify based on your above 7 criteria items but if you can map investments to those criteria then you can get a budget perspective of the O&M dollars you are looking for.

However, it looks like you want something more granular and you mention costs instead of budget amounts. So in order to get that would need list of public facing web site and actual costs associated with consumption data from the network (for domain name, SSL), application (maintenance design changes and system and development software), data center (website hosting), outside services ( for professional services and hosting) towers. You would use that consumption data to allocate a percentage of tower costs for each criteria to each public facing web site

feel free to reach out if you want to meet to discuss further

    gm Robert,

very familiar topic when i was an application architect building many healthcare solutions.  Now, I have working to enhance  Financial Models of IT.    In my case, it is largely driven by use cases( or business capability map) and should be able to justify by its cost using number of error tickets,  users' visits and events from web analytics,

    1. identify business and IT data domains relevant to measure your costs and its overall performance.   These can include your ticket management system, web analytics, use cases, staffing, infrastructure, vendors(software, hardware, services), department, and finally your general ledger system.
    2. once you are able to collect all these data, I built multivariate regression model based upon key variables affecting IT portfolios such as GL expenses by account level, number of tickets based upon use case or applications, MTRS, MTTR, infrastructures from CMDB.  Most of items you listed above could be from CMDB.
    3. Now, you should have your enterprise wide benchmarks affecting your cost/expense measured by betas. Alpha will provide specific IT components performance above or below your enterprise wide benchmarks.
    4. Finally, based upon your key important variables, you can come up what your most optimum IT portfolio management cost/metrics with budget constraints.
    5. And you go thru Feedback looping process to mature your operations.

It is another way measuring your IT portfolio performance based upon key financial metrics.  It is  interesting topic and I hope it help you see from a different angle.

    Thanks,
