In this session, James LaPlaine (SVP, Technology Operations at AOL) will share the journey AOL's central IT department began in mid-2012 to become the most financially transparent organization at the company. Hear how a rich configuration management database has been the launching pad to tackling technical debt and changing the dialog around IT costs at the company. A year and half into this work, AOL has built a robust model for invoicing technology costs, unit consumption metrics, and utilization rates in support of every product and service the company provides. This approach has been a critical part of the technology transformation that includes initiatives such as cloud first and a progressive five-year global data center strategy.
