Business Services Extension for the Federal Government

The Federal Government has developed an extension to the TBM Taxonomy to define their Business Services and have begun defining Business Capabilities.  Agency Missions were used as a standard to define the top level capabilities, understanding that there are varying degrees of maturity, with some that have robust Enterprise Architecture  business capabilities defined.

Attached is a visual summary and a detailed list of corresponding definitions that have been created in collaboration with Federal agencies.  It is a comprehensive view of the TBM Taxonomy, v3.0.2 with the additional of the Federal Government specific categories.

We would like to share this work and get feedback from the community to help fill in any gaps or provide suggestions for improvement.  Please note that not all agencies were able to participate, so you will see some areas that are still under development.  Any assistance the community can provide will be appreciated.

This work used existing Federal Government frameworks as a starting point, then evolved based on agency feedback.  It considered the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework and is organized around the Mission Sectors defined there.  The Federal Integrated Business Framework will also be integrated.  You can see some alignment to these in the spreadsheet attachment.

We welcome a robust discussion around this extension and look forward to your feedback.  We hope this will provide a useful resource to others.

    Thank you!
