The updated TBM Taxonomy 5.0.1 is here. This paper provides a detailed description of the Technology Business Management (TBM) taxonomy. Developed by the TBM Council Standards Committee, it is published by the Council and is available to read and use at www.tbmcouncil.org/taxonomy, where additional information about the taxonomy, updates in this version, and downloadable data tables can also be found.
To promote alignment between IT, Finance, and Business Unit leaders, the TBM Council maintains a standard taxonomy to describe cost sources, technologies, IT Resources (IT Towers), applications, and services. Just as businesses rely on generally accepted account principles (GAAP) to drive standard practices for financial reporting, the TBM taxonomy provides a generally accepted way of categorizing and reporting IT costs and metrics.
