    Hi folks,

We are combining the Utilities Strategy Community with the Chemicals, Oil & Gas Special Interest group to form a bigger and broader group to address TBM practices among these industry verticals.

The Utilities, Chemicals, Oil & Gas (UCOG) Strategy Community spent 2023 creating a TBM Taxonomy Extension focused primarily on the Utilities sector and is looking to release this at the TBM Conference in November 2024. Parts of the taxonomy is focused on areas that intersects with the Oil & Gas sector, and as a result of this the UCOG Strategy Community will look to further expand the taxonomy to also cover the entire Chemicals, Oil and Gas sector as well. This could potentially happen by creating a standalone Taxonomy Extension, separate from the Utilities extension, but more likely is it that the UCOG Strategy Community will look to create a unified taxonomy extension for the entire UCOG space.

Furthermore, the need to address the renewable energy space in particular has become very obvious over the past few years, and the group will look to define this space as well, independently of whether one or two taxonomy extensions will be chosen for the UCOG space.

Finally, the group will address the latest trends in Technology, and how it could influence the UCOG industries, specifically by focusing on topics such as

    • Sustainability
    • Internet of Things
    • GenAI
    • Cybersecurity
    • Risk, Governance & Compliance

The Strategy Community welcomes any new members looking to participate and influence the development of the taxonomy extensions and is excited to broaden the scope of the strategy community in the coming years.

Please reach out to me, @Adrian THIVY (Community chair) or @Joen Olsen (technical advisor) if you have any questions! We can't wait to hear from you.

Niketa, is there an updated version beyond what was last shared in December 2023 as the early peek. I was not quite able to grasp how the proposed taxonomy at that point was going to integrate with the rest of the Business Services layer, so was interested if its not underwaps until TBMC Conference?

While I am not from a utility, oil, or gas company, there is a synergy in the mining and materials businesses to the work that was going on, especially in the exploration, development, processing, asset management transportation space. We also share a lot of common areas for challenges including Internet of things & IT/OT convergence in asset intensive business models. So if there was a need for some relateable company input to this to assist building, I would be interested.

    Hi Andrew.

Thank you for taking the time to post your questions.

We are currently in the final stages of finalizing the taxonomy extension, and are looking to present this back to the community at TBMC '24.

You are welcome to join our cohort meetings, where you can have a sneak peak at the taxonomy in its current state. If you're interested, feel free to send me your email address, and I will make sure you get added to the invite.

Furthermore, to your point on the Internet of Things as well as the IT/OT discussion, those are interesting topics that are highly relevant, and we regularly talk about these and similar topics in the Strategy Community, so we'd love to have you participate in this if you are interested.

    Best regards,
    Joen.
